10 Imporant Differences between Brains and Computers

Sonntag, Dezember 11th, 2011

There is an article on the „Computer = Brain“ metaphor on Developing Intellicence. In short, it is trying to debunk the „myth“ about the similarities of brains and computers. It does make 10 (11) very valid points, and you should read the article. Most of them are obvious or even redundant, but I disagree with fact 7. Synapses may seem more complex than logic gates. However I can’t think of any reason why synapses have to be more complex than logic gates. I know they are, but you should be able to emulate them with traditional logic gates.

This also marks my first post on my first own domain. Maybe this means this blog will see more updates? Also I still need to upload more pictures from last year’s travel to Hong Kong.

We are told …

… that there are no dumb questions. All the time in school. But today i learned … there are.

But it aren’t the questions per se that are dumb, but your motivation to ask them. Basically, if you have no idea what answer to expect, the chance your question is dumb is pretty high. You gotta think of „why“ you are asking your question because if you have no general idea of what the answer would be you can’t get information out of it.

Stairs

Dienstag, März 10th, 2009

I am used to take two steps at the time on almost every stair i encounter. Sometimes i even run up on them because they still don’t pose a significant physical challenge. When i was in Amsterdam a few weeks ago, i found my master. Stairs there are so narrow, that it’s virtually impossible to run them. In addition, they are steep enough for me to lose my breath after only two levels.
People there in general seem to be much more fit than here. There are tons of bycicles all over the city and many of them walk alot. Why don’t people her just ditch their cars and get a bike or use public transportation.
