This episode is really just about nabi chasing after doki. She left of to the airport after her little pet hedhog got killed in the 4th episode. At the airport a big showdown happens. Prepare for a massive influx of happy endings.

After the high, the depression kicks in. Some folks seem very upset about doki and nabi beeing together. Stones through the window and graffiti on the wall are just the precursor for a much larger wave of rejection they both face. Eventually their friends launch a counter campaign, but as doki gets hurt nabi breaks up. At the end of the episode, really everything seems lost.

AAAAWWW the first official date. This time, it’s all about the shy guy. Though this episode is especially cute, the real reason to watch it is the cliffhanger ending. It will set the stage for the both climaxes following in the next two episodes. Nevertheless, the issue of their love beeing kinda outcast is pushed further in the episode.

There is also an easter egg. Hidden in a cloud on the right side of the loading screen, you can switch on an alternative intro, showing doki preparing the present. As always the original video can be found on Sambakza.net.

After giving in to doki, nabi decides to bring cake to her birthday party. In the crowded streets of a big city, that’s easier said than done. After some enounters with pedestrians, a rhino, a dog and a frilled lizard, he bumps into rabbit friends of doki. The gang must have heard of the situation but does not approve, because they think nabi is forcing her while it’s kinda the other way around. Nabi evades, but can’t prevent the cake from dropping on the floor. Doki clears up the mess, but eventually they get thrown out of the restaurant … something to remember in the later episodes.

Again this episode features catchy music and some really nice animation. Definitely a must see. The original video can be found on Sambakza.net.

Flash animation has come a long way. From tiny buttons to medium sized ad-banners, flash evolved into an art form somewhen between 2001 and 2002. In 2003 i found a particular well made animation. Little did i know that it would turn out to be great because of it’s art, but also because of it’s story.

The story is set in a urban city inhabitatet by antropomorphic cats, rabits and other animals. In the first of the 5 parts we encounter a female rabbit (named doki) and a male cat (named nabi). The rabbit falls for the cat during the opening and is chasing the fleeing guy through the city until he gives in. Eventually this whole thing will turn out to become a romeo & julia setting, but with a slightly more social touch. Of course the real trouble just surfaces in the later episodes i will post over the next couple of days.

Produced by the korean art team of SamBakZa.net. The site is not only the creative outlet of the group but apparently developed to a social site for fans of the series. I bet most people like it for the same reasons i do. The songs are catchy, the animation lovely and the story and the situations are so naive, yet true.

The movie is just a few megabytes in size, but due the servers beeing located in Korea, it might take a while.

Mmhhhh Donuts …

Dienstag, Oktober 28th, 2008

First post in a long time, better let it be at least mildly amusing.

Thursday, there was some conference for campus police officers in
10-250. I made the mistake of walking by this ill-fated room and
discovered (quite to my surprise, of course) the largest array of
donuts I have ever seen in my life. They had six full-sized folding
tables absolutely FILLED with donuts.

If we consider 3m^2 of space per table and six tables, that’s 18m^2
of space for donuts. A donut on its side is approximately 3cm x 15cm
or .0045m^2. This makes 4000 donuts! 10-250 seats a maximum of 300
people, which gives us an incredible 13.3 cream-filled
chocolate-glazed confectionaries per police officer!

At a conservative 350 calories/donut, that means that each CP
consumed 4600 calories at the conference yesterday, which happens to
be just about double the entire reccomended caloric intake of a
sedentary middle-aged male.

Let’s model 10-250 as a closed system. Consider it a triangular
prism formed by cutting a 5m X 30m x 35m rectangular solid across its
diagonal, resulting in an enclosed volume of 2625m^2. Through PV=mRT
we find that the mass of air enclosed in this room is m=PV/RT
(Rair=287, T=300K, P=10e5 Pa), or 305 kg of air.

If 25% of the donuts‘ energy is converted to heat by the body (the
remainder going to the production of fat and the recombination of
chemical bonds after digestion), we see that (.25 x 4000 donuts x 350
kcal/donut x 4.16 kJ/kcal) 364000 kJ of energy is released into the
room.

Now, if we use U=mc(T2-T1), we can find the final temperature of the
room. U=364,000 kJ, m=305 kJ, T1 = 300 K, c(air)= .716 kJ/kg-K

The final temperature in the room would end up being 1395 K or 1122
degrees C. This is just about the melting point of copper….

This suggests that 10-250 is NOT an open system or that less than 25%
of the donuts‘ energy actually gets converted to heat.

Now, what exactly is the implication of 364 MJ? It may seem like a
lot of energy (and it is) but what exactly is it in terms of power?
As the egalitarian’s credo tells us, power is more important than
work, and the demands of this problem also state that instantaneous
output is more important than the integrated function.

I think the conference was eight hours long. Instantaneous power
outuput is measured in Kilowatts, which is a J/sec. Eight hours is
(8 hours x 60 min/hr x 60 sec/min) 28800 sec, giving us a power
output of 12.64 kW total. We previously assumed 300 people in the
room, or 42 Watts/cop.

Thus, each cop is putting out about 2/3 as much heat as a standard
incandescent light bulb. This is completely reasonable.

I feel as if I have just hit upon some great truth of humanity here,
but I’m not sure what it is.

Truth?
Cops don’t like thermodynamics?

Free will … yeah right.

Montag, April 14th, 2008

Many people take free will for granted. In fact, many legal systems around the world are based heavily on it. But see, i have a problem with that. Noone can tell what free will actually is and in what cases it is blocked (migitation of punishment) or how it work’s or is formed.
I read an article today about scientists that use brain scanners to see how decisons are buildt. They claim that they can’t find anything related to free will at all, because they can detect and even predict decisions way before people think they made them. This leads to the severe question what the hell this free will thing is everyone is talking about. If it doesn’t exist, what the hell do judges rule upon?

But what really concearns me the most is, that people at the very source of this research are in themselfs so insecure about their findings that they are throwing all kinds of apologetic statements at journalists interviewing them. Want an example? Here you are:

Maybe free will enters at the last moment, allowing a person to override an unpalatable subconscious decision.

What the hell man? You just found out what people are speculating for a long time and try to debase it in the same breath? What’s wrong with drawing logical conclusions?

It’s PI Day

Freitag, März 14th, 2008

If you live in an anglo-american territory, today your date today (3.14.) resembles the first 3 digits of [tex]pi[/tex] = 3.14. I read on heise.de that the celebration is getting more common in european countries too.

Happy [tex]pi[/tex]-Day
